What should Borikén be?

by José M. López Sierra – Puerto Rico

If you were to ask what Italy should be, the answer would be Italy. And that would be the same for every nation in the world, except for Puerto Rico.

After 120 years of the United States Government (USG) controlling what information Puerto Ricans should have, Puerto Ricans are a divided People. Certainly, the USG has used “Divide and Conquer” to perfection!

The artificial controversy among Puerto Ricans is whether Puerto Rico should be a state of the United States of America, continue being a United States colony with a name that sound like it is not, or an independent nation like almost the rest of the world. But only in Puerto Rico would this controversy ever exist for the reason just mentioned!

The “Grito de Lares” revolt of 1868 proved that Puerto Ricans felt themselves a different People than the Spanish. It is important to note that being a nation has to do with culture, and not biology!

The Puerto Ricans had obtained real self-government from Spain by 1897 through the Autonomic Charter.

The USG illegally made Puerto Rico its colony by a military invasion and occupation. This act of aggression has persisted up to the present! Where was the USG’s respect for the rule of law in 1898?

The USG then made a series of its own laws to maintain Puerto Rico as its colony. The most dramatic was the law the USG used to keep Oscar Lopez Rivera imprisoned for almost 36 years. The USG alleged that Oscar was convicted for seditious conspiracy to overthrow the USG from Puerto Rico by force! Wasn’t that way the USG colonized Puerto Rico?

Do you know that international law gives a person living under colonialism the right to use any means necessary to decolonize his homeland? Therefore, it is the USG that is committing a crime against humanity by maintaining Puerto Rico as its colony.

The real problem isn’t that Puerto Ricans don’t know what they want. The real problem is that the USG refuses to comply with the United Nations’ Charter and its 37 resolutions asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans.

Join the permanent resistance to force the USG to comply with the will of the international community, because those who use violence to commit a crime against humanity don’t believe in LIBERTY AND IN JUSTICE FOR ALL!  https://www.facebook.com/groups/1697349163904877/
