Inequality in PR is colonialism

By José M. López Sierra – Puerto Rico

Most people want to frame the inequality in Puerto Rico by talking about its symptoms, and not the real cause of it. Please click on this link for more: https://youtu.be/i4ulSk0EqXU

Most people are unaware that the United States (US) militarily invaded Puerto Rico 125 years ago to make her its colony. Therefore, it is no surprise that almost half of the Puerto Ricans living in Puerto Rico live in poverty.

Most people are unaware that two thirds of Puerto Ricans have abandoned their national territory. That should tell us that Puerto Rico is definitely not a democracy. If it were, why would most Puerto Ricans leave?

The US is not a democracy either. If it were, why would it spend 10 times more on its military than the next 10 nations combined, and have 800 military bases all around the world?

Why would a real democracy have 38 million Americans living in poverty, while 9 of the 10 richest men in the world are US citizens?

And, why would the US, the self-proclaimed “champion of democracy”, refuse to comply with 42 United Nations’ (UN) resolutions asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans?

US imperialism is responsible for the inequality in Puerto Rico and in the rest of the world. The wars in Ukraine and Gaza are proof of that.

The 4 US’ vetoes on ceasefire resolutions at the UN’s Security Council, and its total disregard for the order handed down by the International Court of Justice from South Africa’s genocide case against Israel make it perfectly clear that the US is a criminal state.

No democracy no equality!
