Best way to hear all PR voices

By José M. López Sierra – Puerto Rico

If the United States (US) government (USG) today finally wants self-determination for Puerto Rico, the best way to do it would be to comply with the 40 United Nations (UN) resolutions asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. Puerto Ricans would then, and in our own language, determine our own political future. Click on the following link to watch how the USG designs a convoluted process in order to make it appear it wants to decolonize Puerto Rico: https://youtu.be/VKRjHhhhPkc

It is a myth that, Puerto Ricans, as US colonial subjects, need to vote for our political status options. Under the present law, the Treaty of Paris of 1898 says that the rights of Puerto Ricans shall be determined by the US. If Puerto Ricans have no rights that the USG has to respect, what is the sense of voting in a colony?

It is important to note that the USG has illegally occupied Puerto Rico militarily for the past 124 years. The USG has been committing a crime against humanity. Therefore, the USG should never be in charge of correcting the very problem that it created. And by it refusing to comply with the UN resolutions, the USG, obviously, has no intentions of ever decolonizing Puerto Rico.

The 9 million Puerto Ricans worldwide must permanently vote with our feet to force the USG to comply with international law. If we don’t, this circus will go on forever!

Why reinvent the wheel?
