World believes US threatens peace

By José M. López Sierra – Puerto Rico

Despite the United States (US) government’s (USG) claim that it is the beacon of democracy, the world believes that it is the biggest threat to peace. This belief is based on facts.

The USG has the biggest military budget in the world, and has about 800 military bases around the world. That can’t be for defense! The USG, however, allows 2.5 million US children to be homeless! Why aren’t US citizens a priority for the USG?

The USG wants independence for Hong Kong and Taiwan, but has maintained Puerto Rico as its colony for the past 123 years in violation of the United Nations’ (UN) Charter, and 40 UN resolutions asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. Why aren’t Puerto Ricans’ human rights the same as other people?

Although the USG accuses the Peoples’ Republic of China as being authoritative, 95.5% of her citizens are satisfied with their government. China has lifted 850 million Chinese out of extreme poverty! That is almost 3 times the population of the US. China considers that more important, than establishing 801 Chinese military bases around the world.

Although the USG says that it is the champion of democracy, 87% of its own citizens are dissatisfied with their government. We ask ourselves, in a real democracy, how could the US be the epicenter of the coronavirus with 4.5% of the world’s population, and having 17% of the world’s coronavirus deaths?

The UN rapporteur for torture has written a book about Julian Assange. Nils Melzer claims that Julian has not committed any crimes. The USG has violated laws to silence him, because he dared to expose US crimes. The USG, obviously, believes that it is above the law. To believe that means that the USG has a double standard.

Double standard does not lead to justice. Without justice, there could be no peace. And that is why the world regards the USG as the biggest threat to peace.

The USG wants a war with Russia and China, because that would benefit 1% of its citizens. The people must engage in permanent resistance to force the USG to represent 100% of its people.

A real democracy must represent 100% of the people.
