What is the UN for?

The United Nations (UN) says on its website that it is, “one place where the world’s nations can gather together, discuss common problems and find shared solutions.

“The UN is an international organization founded in 1945. Currently made up of 193 Member States, the UN and its work are guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter.

The UN has evolved over the years to keep pace with a rapidly changing world.

But one thing has stayed the same: it remains the one place on Earth where all the world’s nations can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions that benefit all of humanity.”

The UN Secretary General, António Guterres, said that “In the end, it comes down to values … we want the world our children inherit to be defined by the values enshrined in the UN Charter: peace, justice, respect, human rights, tolerance and solidarity.” https://www.un.org/en/about-us/

Would the United States (US) government (USG) have a problem with the UN’s headquarters being located in Cuba? Of course! On what basis? Are you aware that the world regards the USG, and not the Cuban government, as the biggest threat to peace? And despite that, the UN is located in the US. Doesn’t that represent a conflict of interests? Let’s see.

Has the UN fulfilled its commitment with regards to Puerto Rico? Yes, and no.

1. The UN has included in its Charter of 1945 that colonialism is prohibited, because it is a crime against humanity.
2. The UN has communicated to the world in 39 resolutions that the USG must immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans.

The UN however has not fulfilled its commitment by not:

1. Returning Puerto Rico to its list of colonies, after realizing that the USG had lied to get her off. The USG said that Puerto Rico had acquired self-government in 1952. In fact, that never altered Puerto Rico’s colonial relationship with the USG.
2. Having increased the pressure on the USG to comply with international law by always broadcasting live its yearly Puerto Rico decolonization hearings in June. The UN refused our proposal to do so in June 2015, and refused to allow me to speak at the 2016 hearing because we broadcasted that hearing live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otzBslJLbI0
3. Using its media to inform the public that the USG is committing, with impunity, crimes against humanity for the past 76 years!

If international law matters, it is, therefore, incumbent on the people to engage in permanent resistance to force the USG to comply with it.

And if we don’t, would we ever live in a world ruled by the values that the secretary general spoke of?
