What “democracy” vs authoritarianism?

By José M. López Sierra – Puerto Rico

The United States (US) frames the war in Ukraine as one about “democracy” against authoritarianism. The fact of the matter, however, is that these so-called “democracies’ are the ones that are the real authoritative regimes. So much so, that the world, over the years and via Gallup Polls, has named the US as the biggest threat to peace!

These authoritative regimes favor imperialism. They constitute about 20% of the nations of the world.

The majority of the people in these nations, however, do not favor imperialism. But, they are governed by oligarchs. Therefore, even within these so called, “western democracies” democracy is totally absent!

The war in Ukraine is about maintaining the US’ unipolar world order. To this, the US calls, “Rules Based Order (RBO)”. RBO means that the US tells the world what to do. And, if you refuse, the US will militarily invade you, or will impose economic sanctions on you. That is exactly what has happened to the Russian Federation. RBO totally violates the International Law that 80% of the world favors.

The United Nations (UN) has no business being in the US, if the US refuses to comply with International Law. The US has maintained an illegal economic blockade against Cuba for more than 60 years, and has maintained Puerto Rico as her colony for the past 124 years in violation to 41 UN resolutions asking her to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans.

RBO is undemocratic, because at least 80% of the world does not want it! The majority of the world does not want to die in a nuclear war. But yet, no more than 20% of the world is willing to risk world annihilation, rather than to stop exploiting the world.

The atomic scientists have set the end of the world clock at 90 seconds away from dooms day. If the world really enjoys democracy, then the 80% of the people should be able to stop the dooms day clock. And, if we can’t halt our own destruction, then that would be proof that democracy never existed in the first place!

Use democracy to stop WWIII.
