In the case of Puerto Rico, the USG has maintained her as its colony for the past 123 years despite that being prohibited by the United Nations’ (UN) Charter of 1945, and despite 40 UN resolutions asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otzBslJLbI0
