20th century colonial death toll at 50 million

By José M. López Sierra – Puerto Rico

The alarm these days is about the Coronavirus, and how many people have died from it.

Do you know that the number of people who have died because of colonialism is astronomical! R.J. Rummel, a University of Hawaii scholar, puts the 20th century death toll attributable to colonialism at 50 million. Colonialism still exists in the 21 century. The following is the official United Nations’ (UN) list of colonies. You will note that Puerto Rico, the oldest and most populated colony in the world today, is not on that list. Why?

Puerto Ricans revolted against United States (US) imperialism in 1950. The US government (USG) camouflaged its colony in 1952 by calling it, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. In 1953, the USG asked the UN to remove Puerto Rico from the list, because, the USG alleged, that she had attained self-government via the creation of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. The UN bought it. https://youtu.be/UsfjIvNsUJM

Today, although the UN realizes that the USG lied, it has never returned Puerto Rico to the list. The UN does, however, hold an annual hearing to discuss Puerto Rico decolonization, because colonialism is a crime against humanity and therefore a threat to peace This hearing is usually on the Monday after Fathers’ Day (this year, June, 22, 2020). http://webtv.un.org/watch/5th-meeting-committee-of-24-special-committee-on-decolonization/6051725003001/

The UN is in the last year of its 3rd international decade for the eradication of colonialism. The USG has consistently refused to comply with 38 UN resolutions asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. Do you believe that the USG would comply if the UN calls for a 4th?

The USG has made so much money from having Puerto Rico as its colony for the past 121 years to ever decolonize her on its own. We will have to push the USG to do so!

We could push it, by engaging the almost 9 million Puerto Ricans worldwide in permanent resistance to force the USG to comply with international law.

Let’s get started, because those who put profits before human lives don’t believe in LIBERTY AND IN JUSTICE FOR ALL! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1697349163904877/

What are you going to do about it?
