Independence except for PR

By José M. López Sierra – Puerto Rico

InfoAlDesnudo

Puerto Rico had her independence, before the United States (US) militarily invaded her in 1898 specifically to make her a US colony.

The Spanish Crown, fearful of Puerto Rico independence, made her a Spanish province in 1897. Spain made it clear to the US, during the Treaty of Paris negotiations, that Puerto Rico was not hers to cede to the US. The US, however, insisted that ceding Puerto Rico was a precondition to ending the American Spanish War.

The US, the self-proclaimed champion of democracy and human rights, now gets ready to celebrate her own independence from England on July 4th, 2023. But the glaring contradiction to US independence, is why not Puerto Rico?

The fact of the matter is that the US is far from being the champion of democracy. That is why the world considers the US the biggest threat to peace. That is why the US has 38 million Americans living in poverty, while 80% of the richest men in the world are US citizens. And that is why the US is trying to get the world into World War III!

Now it is perfectly clear why the US has vetoed 42 United Nations resolutions asking her to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. And, by the US not doing so, 2 thirds of Puerto Ricans no longer live in our national territory. And, half of the Boricuas who have refused to abandon our homeland, live in poverty. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otzBslJLbI0

Puerto Rico is not a poor nation. She has been made poor via 125 years of US imperialism. And, yet the US claims to support Taiwan’s inalienable right to self-determination and independence! Therefore, a better fit would be the US of hypocrisy.

US independence only for the rich!

Jose M Lopez Ismael
