The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France, after the United States (US) won its independence from the British Empire. The West proclaims to be the defender of democracy and the rule of law. US imperialism is manifested by 9 of the 10 richest men in the world being Americans, while 40 million US citizens live in poverty, and 201 million more live from paycheck to paycheck.
Moreover, imperialism is behind the US’ consistent refusal to comply with 42 United Nations’ resolutions demanding the immediate return of Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans.
The US, nevertheless, proclaims to be the champion of democracy. How could a democracy unconditionally support the genocide against the indigenous people of Palestine against international law? That is why the world, on the contrary, considers the US as the biggest threat to peace!
