Ignorance has hijacked US democracy

By José M. López Sierra

Most United States (US) citizens are clueless about the significance of the celebration of July 4th as it relates to the birth of our nation, by virtue of the 13 English setter colonies having fought and won a revolutionary war against England for their political independence. Due to this ignorance, oligarchs have turned the US into an oligarchy. Democracy is only a cover to continue to maintain US citizens clueless about our reality.

The reality is that, if the US were a real democracy, it would not need 800 military bases all around the world. It does, only because the US never plans to ever comply with international law. These bases are to bully other nations do what is profitable for US oligarchs.

This was the point of US Major General Smedley Butler’s book WAR IS A RACKET, and US President Eisenhower in his farewell speech to the nation regarding the US Military Industrial Complex.

Today, 38 million Americans live in poverty, while 9 of the 10 richest men in the world are US citizens. If the People’s Republic of China, as the second biggest economy in the world after the US, has already eradicated her poverty, despite having 4 times the US’ population, why can’t the US? The US won’t, because the real dictatorship is the US, and not China. In fact, 90% of Chinese are satisfied with their government, while only 38% of Americans are satisfied with ours!

Moreover, the US has consistently refused to comply with 42 United Nations’ (UN) resolutions demanding that it immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. The US prefers to commit a crime against humanity, than to deprive its oligarchs from profiting from US imperialism! Let’s educate ourselves in order to create a real US democracy!
