Gentrification in Boriken

By José M. López Sierra

Two thirds of Boricuas are already living outside of our own national territory, after 126 years of United States (US) imperialism. It is also important to mention that half of the 3 million Boricuas in Boriken live in poverty. While the US hypocritically says that it supports Taiwan’s inalienable right to self-determination and independences, it has consistently refused to comply with 42 United Nations’ resolutions demanding that it immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. Taiwan, unlike Puerto Rico, has the best semi-conductor company in the world! The US, of course, wants to make trouble for the People’s Republic of China, and perhaps make Taiwan’s company its own.

The US is the biggest threat to peace, because war is what makes money for its oligarchs. That was exactly what US Major General Smedley Butler try to tell us in his book WAR IS A RACKET, and President Eisenhower in his farewell speech to the nation about the US Military Industrial Complex. Thomas Jefferson also warned us too, when he said that we had created a republic, if we could keep it. We didn’t!

A government of by and for oligarchs.
