The United States (US) says that the Russian Federation must be defeated in the battlefield of Ukraine. That means that the US has a death wish, because to destroy Russia on the battlefield means that the US will be destroyed too. Must Russia be destroyed for the sake of democracy? No.
US oligarchs, however, want to steal Russia’s resources, and therefore are willing to risk a nuclear holocaust to achieve it.
The same is true with the case of Puerto Rico. The democratic thing to do would be to decolonize Puerto Rico. The US, however, has consistently refused to comply with 42 United Nations resolutions asking her to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otzBslJLbI0
