Even United States citizens (US) don’t enjoy democracy, because they are not sovereign. If they were, would 40 million Americans be living in poverty, and 201 million more be living from paycheck to paycheck, while 9 of the 10 richest men in the world are also Americans? Only 34% of Americans are satisfied with their government.
And, if the US were really the champion of democracy, would it have consistently refused to comply with 42 United Nations’ (UN) resolutions demanding the immediate return of Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans? 6 million Puerto Ricans have abandoned their national territory in the meantime (gentrification), and half of the 3 million people in Puerto Rico live in poverty too! The UN’s Puerto Rico decolonization hearing this year will be on Monday, June 16, 2025.
Respect for sovereignty brings peace.
