The United States (US) does not act like a democracy. If it did, 40 million Americans would not be living in poverty today, and 201 million more living from paycheck to paycheck, while 9 of the 10 richest men in the world are US citizens. If the US were a democracy, it would not be today unconditionally supporting the genocide against the indigenous people of Palestine against international law.
And, if the US were a democracy, it would not have consistently refused to comply with 42 United Nations’ resolutions demanding the immediate return of Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans.
