The real challenge of freedom

By José M. López Sierra – Puerto Rico

The United States (US) government put out a propaganda movie called “The Challenge of Ideas” in 1961. Its goal was to discredit communism. Please click on the following link for more: https://youtu.be/0jqB51pYV9s

Today, the US has been the one that has discredited herself by her own actions.

By the US wanting to silence Julian Assange for exposing US crimes, where then is the freedom of ideas, speech, liberties and values mentioned in the movie as US virtues?

By 38 million Americans today living in poverty, where then is the human dignity mentioned in the movie? And how is US exceptionalism evidenced when communist China has already eradicated poverty at home, despite having 4 times the population of the US?

By ignoring 41 United Nations resolutions asking the US to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans, how could that be interpreted as fighting for freedom and human rights?

And, by trying to get the world today in to a nuclear war in order to try to remain hegemon, how could that then be an example of “toughness of morale fiber”?

What conclusion, therefore, could we draw, as to the US’s true values, from the fact that, 8 of the 10 richest men in the world are US citizens, being the US only 4.2% of the world’s population?

US “democracy” means oligarchy.
