It is important to mention that the US government (USG) has never respected the sovereignty of Puerto Rico. The USG militarily invaded Puerto Rico to make her a colony in 1898. The USG refused to comply in 1945 with the United Nations’ (UN) Charter that prohibits colonialism for being a crime against humanity. Moreover, the USG has repeatedly ignored 40 UN resolutions asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. The US has no right to talk about democracy. The US, the so-called beacon of democracy, is the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic with over a million deaths. And, while the nation herself is bankrupt, 8 of the 10 wealthiest men in the world are US citizens. What kind of democracy is that? How is that doing better than China and Russia?
