The United States (US) government (USG) has a 245 year history of violating human rights.

The USG has never complied with the United Nations’ (UN) Charter of 1945 that prohibits colonialism. The USG has also ignored 40 UN resolutions asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otzBslJLbI0
You can’t have free elections in Puerto Rico as long as she is a colony of the USG. Therefore, Puerto Rico must enjoy her independence before any elections are meaningful.
