Since colonies are for the sole benefit of empires, it is up to the colonized people to free themselves.
The majority of Puerto Ricans, however, are waiting for the United States government (USG) to decolonize Puerto Rico. But that hasn’t happened in 123 years, and never will.
The fact of the matter is that the USG has never complied with the United Nations’ (UN) Charter of 1945 that prohibits colonialism, because it is a crime against humanity.
Moreover, the USG has ignored 40 UN resolutions asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otzBslJLbI0
