UN and Decolonization

By José M. López Sierra – Puerto Rico

The following is the United Nations’ (UN) current presentation on its website about the work that it is doing to eradicate colonialism. Click on the following link to see it: https://www.un.org/dppa/decolonization/en

The following is what the UN is not telling you:

Puerto Rico is not on the UN’s list of colonies, although she is the oldest and most populated colony in the world! She is not, because the United States government (USG) lied to the UN saying that Puerto Rico had acquired self-government in 1952 via the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

The USG has never complied with the UN’s Charter that prohibits colonialism since its foundation in 1945.

The USG is committing a crime against humanity by maintaining Puerto Rico under colonialism. It has ignored, thus far, 39 UN resolutions asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. http://webtv.un.org/watch/5th-meeting-committee-of-24-special-committee-on-decolonization/6051725003001/

The UN does not advertise its annual Puerto Rico decolonization hearing, usually on the Monday after Fathers’ Day, in the New York City media. The public, therefore, is oblivious to the UN is in its “Fourth International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism”. That was quite a shock to me!

The UN does not broadcast live its annual Puerto Rico decolonization hearing on its own radio and television media outlets. That was also quite a shock to me!

This means to me that the only way that the USG will comply with international law would be for the nearly 9 million Puerto Ricans worldwide to engage in permanent resistance to force it to do so.

The Puerto Ricans’ mindset must be, resistance today, resistance tomorrow and resistance forever! www.
