What is the UN for?

By José M. López Sierra – Puerto Rico

InfoAlDesnudo

The United Nations (UN) was created in 1945 to try to settle disputes among nations without having to resort to wars.

All 193 Member States of the Organization are represented in the General Assembly to discuss and work together on a wide array of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations, such as development, peace and security, international law, etc. Click here for more information: https://www.un.org/en/ga/

The UN is having its 74th General Assembly right now. This year’s theme is “Galvanizing multilateral efforts for poverty eradication, quality education, climate action and inclusion”. Why isn’t the oldest and most populated colony in the world on the UN’s agenda?

Do you know that the United States Government (USG) has been in violation of the UN’s Charter since the UN was founded? The UN’s Charter prohibits colonialism, and the USG has refused to decolonize Puerto Rico during the past 74 years with immunity! This means that the USG is committing a crime against humanity. Doesn’t that make it worthy of being on the top of the UN’s agenda in every General Assembly?

Moreover, the USG has ignored 38 UN resolutions asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Rican people. Do you know that the UN has one more year in its Third International Decade to Eradicate Colonialism? If the UN has refused to put serious international pressure on the USG to comply with the UN’s Charter, what is the UN for? http://webtv.un.org/watch/5th-meeting-committee-of-24-special-committee-on-decolonization/6051725003001/

If the UN has not been successful in decolonizing Puerto Rico in its 74 years of existence, what makes anybody believe that the 193 heads of states at this year’s UN General Assembly will really be “discussing and working together on a wide array of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations, such as development, peace, and security, international law, etc.”? I don’t!

The UN has its headquarters in New York City? Isn’t it ironic that the UN is located in the nation that is considered by the world to be the biggest threat to world peace? Click the following link for more information: https://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2017/08/07/polls-us-greatest-threat-to-peace-world-today/.  Why hasn’t the UN done something about that? What is the UN for?

The USG makes a lot of money from having all the activities connected with UN’s operations located in the United States. Isn’t it time to relocate the UN headquarters to a nation that has for 74 years complied with the UN Charter? Why is the international community rewarding criminal behavior? What is the UN for?

Aware that the UN is not doing the job for which it was created to do, we the people must take charge. All people of good will must join together to engage in permanent resistance to force the USG to comply with the UN’s Charter and the 38 UN resolutions to decolonize Puerto Rico, because those who have violated the UN’s Charter with impunity for nearly a quarter of a century don’t believe in LIBERTY AND IN JUSTICE FOR ALL! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1697349163904877/

Revolution is order when tyranny is the law.
