ESPN announced Friday that Cowherd no longer will appear on the network after the popular radio host made disparaging comments this week about baseball players from the Dominican Republic. Martinez, a native of the D.R., was asked his opinion on the matter Friday night in Cooperstown, where he’s set to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday. His response was awesome.
“I’m sorry. He needs to get to my level to answer him. I’m in the Hall of Fame,” Martinez said, according to The New York Times.
Here are his extended remarks:

Cowherd announced earlier this week he was leaving ESPN for FOX Sports. He then made waves by suggesting baseball can’t be “too complex” because it’s played by many Dominicans. Cowherd later apologized and tried to clarify his comments, but it was too late in the minds of many.
Martinez, who won three Cy Young awards over his 18-year major league career, is considered one of the most dominant and intelligent pitchers of his era. Cowherd can try to, as Martinez suggests, get on the former Boston Red Sox ace’s level. But we all know that’s not going to happen.
Pedro wins. Again.
